Who runs this site
This website is operated by Dr Adrian Laurence (“we,” “us,” “the site”), a practising Family & Lifestyle Medicine physician based in the United Kingdom. The site publishes educational articles on health and longevity for a general adult audience worldwide.
For any privacy-related question, contact us at dradrianlaurence@gmail.com.
Summary, in plain language
- The site is a static website. It does not run user accounts, store passwords, or hold a database of readers.
- The site uses Vercel Analytics, which is privacy-friendly and does not use cookies or fingerprinting.
- If you submit your email through the newsletter form, that data is processed by Substack, not by us directly.
- Standard server access logs (IP address, browser, page requested) are retained briefly by our hosting provider for security and operational purposes.
- You have rights under UK GDPR and equivalent international laws to access, correct, or delete your personal data.
What we collect, and why
Site analytics
We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand which articles readers find useful, in aggregate. Vercel Analytics is cookieless, does not use browser fingerprinting, and does not track individuals across sites. The data we receive is aggregated counts of page views, referrers, country of origin (derived from IP at request time, not stored), device type, and basic Core Web Vitals performance metrics.
We use this data to decide what to write next and to fix performance problems. We do not use it to identify, profile, or contact individual readers.
Newsletter signup
The site links to a Substack newsletter. If you choose to subscribe, Substack collects and processes your email address according to its own privacy policy. We receive only the aggregate subscriber list and the engagement metrics Substack provides for the publication. We do not buy, sell, share, or rent email addresses to third parties.
You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any newsletter email, or by emailing us directly. Unsubscribing removes your email from both the active mailing list and any future communications.
Server logs
Our hosting provider, Vercel Inc., automatically records standard server access logs when you visit any page. These typically include your IP address, the page requested, the timestamp, the referring page, and information about your browser and device. These logs are kept for a short period for security, debugging, and abuse prevention. They are not used to build a profile of any individual reader.
Search
The site search uses Pagefind, which runs entirely inside your browser. When you search, your queries do not leave your device. We do not see, log, or store search terms.
Comments
The site does not currently host reader comments or user-generated content. If that changes, this policy will be updated to describe how any such data is processed.
What we do not collect
- We do not use marketing cookies or third-party advertising trackers.
- We do not run social-media tracking pixels (no Meta Pixel, no LinkedIn Insight Tag, no TikTok Pixel).
- We do not collect health data, symptom data, or any other clinical information about readers.
- We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The site is written for adults.
Third-party services we link to
The site links to YouTube (Dr Adrian Laurence’s channel), Substack (the newsletter), and other social platforms (X, Threads, Facebook, LinkedIn). When you click a link to one of those services, that platform’s own privacy policy applies. We do not control what those services do with your data once you arrive.
We do not embed videos, social-share widgets, or external scripts that track readers across sites on the article pages themselves. The article pages load only first-party fonts, images, and CSS hosted on our domain.
Where data is stored
The site is hosted on Vercel’s global edge network. Server logs and analytics data may be processed in the United States, the European Union, or other regions where Vercel operates. Vercel maintains contractual safeguards consistent with UK GDPR international transfer requirements.
Newsletter data held by Substack is stored on Substack’s infrastructure (US-based) and is governed by Substack’s own data protection terms.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR (and equivalent rights under EU GDPR, California CCPA, and other comparable regimes), you have the right to:
- Access any personal data we hold about you.
- Correct data that is inaccurate.
- Delete your data (sometimes called the right to be forgotten).
- Restrict how your data is processed.
- Object to processing.
- Receive a copy of your data in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent.
Most readers will not have personal data held by us beyond what Substack maintains for newsletter subscribers. If you are a subscriber and want to exercise any of these rights, the fastest path is to email us at dradrianlaurence@gmail.com. We respond within 30 days.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk) or your national data protection authority if you believe your rights have not been respected.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS with a valid TLS certificate. We follow reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect the limited data we do hold. No system is perfectly secure. If we become aware of a breach affecting reader data, we will notify affected individuals and the relevant supervisory authority within the timeframes required by law.
Children
This site is intended for adult readers (18+). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16, in jurisdictions where that is the relevant threshold). If you believe a child has provided personal information in violation of this policy, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site and its services change. The “last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Significant changes will be highlighted at the top of the page for at least 30 days following the change.
